Såo Paolo-based graffiti artist Paulo Ito serves as an artistic muse of the Brazilian people amidst the chaos of FIFA's omnipresence. Through his controversial murals, Ito visually depicts the tumultuous relationship between the people of Brazil and their systematically flawed government. VICE Sports, along with our partners at Eight by Eight magazine, catches up with Ito about his inspiration, intention, and future goals. Painting beautiful Brazil landscapes on ceramic tiles. Douglas is a street artist I met in Madureira, Rio de Janeiro. In this video, he is painting one of the pieces I bought, while talking to my mother in law and some passerby. Captured may 17, 2008.
The film \"Waste Land\" follows artist Vik Muniz as he creates portraits of a band of self-designated pickers of recyclable materials in Brazil, using the trash that surrounds them. This excerpt is part of The Economist Film Project series of independently produced films aired in partnership between The Economist and the NewsHour.
artista This artist works in Laranjeiras, Serra City, Espirito Santo. The city of Serra is part of the Great Vitoria. Use 40X40 floors, ink, pieces of bushings and hands. Producing paintings such around five minutes. The guy is fantastic.
Speaking of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil --- it is literally just days away.. so there's understandably a lot of attention on the Latin American country these days. Our Yim Yoon-hee joins us in the studio to tell us where the focus is in the arts and culture scene. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. So, you tell me... here in Korea... we're privileged to be hosting some pieces of art by Brazil's most famous cartoonist. Yes Mauricio de Sousa is a very popular cartoonist in Brazil, known for his "Monica's Gang" comic series. But recently, he's created some fun renditions of Korea's World Cup players, both former and present. Take a look at his work, along with another Korean artist who takes inspiration from the younger generation. Kim Nam-il , Lee Young-pyo , Kim Shik-wuk ,... these...
"On May 10, Brazilian artist Paulo Ito posted this mural on the doors of a schoolhouse in São Paulo's Pompeia district. Less than a week later, it has become an international sensation, drawing huge attention on Facebook. It has also taken off in Brazil—a post on the popular Facebook page TV Revolta has been shared and liked more than 40,000 times. "I first saw the image when The Nation's Dave Zirin posted it on Twitter. The portrait of a weeping, starving Brazilian child with nothing to eat but a soccer ball is so simple and evocative that you don't need to know much about Brazil to wrap your head around it. All you have to understand is that despite massive gains made over the past decade, poverty levels are still appallingly high, and the World Cup is costing the nation billions of dol...

-A hundred statues on the streets of Rio de Janeiro have had their eyes covered in red blindfolds. It is an artistic protest at the deepening political crisis in Brazil. The anonymous artist said he wanted to protect national figures from Brazil's history from seeing the shameful state of the nation. The artist said the work was not connected to protest marches against President Dilma Rousseff planned for Sunday. The statues, which are scattered across the city, include one of Brazil's ex-President Getulio Vargas, the country's first dictator who ruled the country from 1930 to 1945 and sought to transform Brazil from a plantation-based economy into an industrial powerhouse. Also blindfolded was a statue of Alberto Santos Dumond, the father of Brazilian aviation and Isabel, Princess Im...

http://www.expedia.com/Rio-de-Janeiro.d178301.Destination-Travel-Guides The early morning in Rio de Janeiro brings quiet, misty coastlines and pink-purple sunrises. The Brazilian locals are up and about soon enough, piling onto the beautiful beaches and expressing themselves through artwork, dance, and the ubiquitous Rio de Janeiro partying. A Rio de Janeiro tour must stop at Christ the Redeemer, the ubiquitous statue that watches over the city from above the Tijuca National Forest. Take the cable car to the lookout point on Sugarloaf Mountain, the city’s iconic peak, and try not to look down – it’s a long way to drop! São Paulo, one of the world’s most populated cities, is Brazil’s exciting hub of business, culture, creativity and hospitality. ‘Sampa’ was founded in 1554, at the spot of the historic Pátio do Colégio. Once home to the region’s first main Catholic Church, the central Praça da Sé now houses the towering Metropolitan Cathedral. Two beautiful historic buildings have been transformed into Cultural Centers: The Banco do Brazil and the Júlio Prestes Train Station. While the city’s most esteemed museums are the São Paulo Museum of Art, on the famous Avenida Paulista, and the Pinacoteca do Estado. The Viaduto Santa Ifigenia, an art nouveau bridge, leads pedestrians to the ornate Municipal Theatre, with its impressive Sala São Paulo concert hall. Don’t miss Ibirapuera Park, which is home to ...

When we presented the stunning short-film ‘Experience Imagination: In South America’ earlier this year, the response we received was overwhelming – they wanted more, and so did we. Fortunately for all of us, the talented filmmakers who brought us part one -- the first dose of their incredible experience on a 4-month journey through South America -- didn't make us wait too long for the second video. The new short-film, ‘In South America: Untamed Winds’ follows lifelong friends, and filmmakers, Vincent Urban, Clemens Krüger, and Stefan Templer on a four-month road trip through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and southern Brazil. Along the way, they witnessed the continent's natural beauty and were confronted with difficult weather conditions. “I hope a viewer is able to feel the time passing,...

Iguazú Falls is almost 2 miles wide and is not one, but an astonishing 275 waterfalls. Eighty percent of the falls lies in Argentina and twenty percent in Brazil, which is why the falls has two names: ‘Iguazú’ in Spanish and ‘Iguaçu’ in Portuguese. Follow the boardwalk trail through the jungle and stand on viewing platforms over the falls. Feel humbled by the power of the tumbling water mass below you. In the wet season, 450,000 cubic feet thunders over the combined falls each second! Enjoy a more serene frontal view of the falls from the viewing points in Brazil. From here, the river seems to drape itself over the edge like a curtain. Take a journey beneath the falls on a speedboat safari. If you’d rather stay dry, take a helicopter ride over the U-shaped series of falls to see how ...
